The Empress Meaning

3 The Empress

The Empress is historically a fertility goddess who encompasses the ideas planted in the subconscious which bear fruit in the physical realm. This card has dominion over the act of creation, nature, the unknown, fruitfulness and motherhood. Taurus is associated with the Empress.

Prompt:

Would you benefit from nurturing yourself?

Live the Tarot:

Choose an area in your life you know would benefit from more focus and give ten extra minutes a day to that area even if it means getting up ten minutes earlier in the morning. How do you feel after you have done this for three days straight? Is there something you can do to nurture this area of your life with more ease and regularity?

Artist’s Interpretation

For my interpretation, I choose a Japanese Kitsune - a mythological shape-shifting fox spirit known for her beauty and cunning. She wears a crown of twelve stars for the twelve months of the year and has an obi (belt) surrounding her body with a field of wheat stalks to represent her abundant femininity and her fertility.
Her face is painted with the symbol for the planet Venus in a heart-shield to represent her power as a loving creator. She stands on a bridge over a river representing the passage of time. Colored leaves rain down around her as a symbol for the quickness that the seasons of life can change and to represent welcoming new seasons with a celebration of colorful glory.
She carries a scepter topped with a tiny blue globe to represent her dominion over all the earth using motherhood as a gateway between the spirit realm and the physical realm. Traditionally the Empress represents all feminine divine aspects: fertility, abundance, sensuality, motherhood, creativity, and nurturing vibes. Reversed she may be nagging, nit-picking, controlling, stifling and cold.
